You Can Help Us Make a Difference
At Six Degrees Off Grid, we believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility. We’re doing everything we can to reduce our impact on the environment, and we ask our guests to help us in this mission. Here’s how you can contribute during your stay:
1. Respect Our Natural Environment
- Whether you’re exploring the jungle, snorkeling at Towale Atoll, or simply relaxing on the beach, please be mindful of the delicate ecosystems around us. Keep the beach clean, and avoid disturbing wildlife.
- If you’re snorkeling, make sure not to touch the coral or stir up the sand. Avoid touching marine life like sea turtles and fish, to help preserve the reef. If you see a dugong, please observe from afar, and don’t try to chase them – they are sensitive creatures and they may be discouraged from returning.
2. Conserve Water and Energy
- Our eco-lodge operates off the grid, so we rely on solar power and harvested rainwater. Please help us conserve energy by turning off lights, fans, and electronics when you’re not using them. Our smart inverters allow devices to be charged more efficiently during the day by bypassing the batteries, rather than draining them at night.
- Be mindful of water usage. Shorter showers, reusing towels, and turning off taps when not in use can significantly reduce water consumption.
3. Support Local Culture and Economy
- We believe in the importance of supporting the local community. Engage with the local culture by visiting the nearby villages, buying locally made handicrafts, and enjoying traditional Kaili dishes at our restaurant.
- As the first accommodation in the village welcoming international visitors, we kindly ask that you help set a positive example for tourism here by respecting local culture and traditions. Please dress modestly while in the village, seek permission before taking photos, and engage with the villagers in a friendly and respectful manner.
4. Minimise Waste
- We ask that you help us reduce waste by recycling and avoiding single-use plastics. Please use reusable water bottles, and dispose of waste responsibly in the bins provided.
- We also encourage you to avoid products that cannot be recycled. For example, limit the use of packaging when possible and opt for eco-friendly alternatives.
5. Be Mindful of Your Footprint
- Practice “leave no trace” principles by keeping the natural surroundings clean and free from litter. If you’re hiking or exploring, stay on designated paths to protect the local flora and fauna.
By making small, conscious choices during your stay, you’ll help us maintain Six Degrees Off Grid as a sustainable sanctuary and contribute to the protection of Sulawesi’s unique environment. We appreciate your efforts and thank you for being part of this important journey.
